This is Volume Six in the Chopiniana series that comprises arrangements on Chopin themes for various instruments.

The arranger of his compatriot's two polonaises, Karol Lipinski (1790-1861) had an illustrious career as violinist, composer, and conductor. Playing violin from age five, and later the cello, Lipinski performed with Chopin, Liszt, and Paganini to great acclaim all over Europe.

As a teacher, the young Joachim and Wieniawski were in his care, and as a composer his many works are melodically inventive and dance-like, with elements of Polish and Ukrainian folklore.Chopin's two 1836 polonaises for piano, in Cj minor and Et minor, are reworked here.

With few exceptions, I usually approach arrangements with trepidation, especially those adapted from Chopin, whose works are so inextricably linked with his unique pianism. …
