Music education thrives in Canada as a result of a robust network of individuals and organizations who possess and show relentless 'grit'. It isn't talent that earned Canadian music education the reputation we all enjoy today. Hard work, creative vision, and thoughtful research are our trademarks. In Canada, we hold a special place within a larger network of arts education researchers and practitioners and constantly work to serve communities across Canada (not to mention significant efforts we proudly export to colleagues abroad). Our organizational network includes reciprocal relationships with provincial/territorial affiliates, national partners, research institutions, and our special efforts to support international interests through representation within the International Society for Music Education.

The CMEA's leadership is central to our national network. Our leadership style, however, is shifting. This instalment of the President's Message is being written mid-flight as I head to Charlottetown to work with the dedicated colleagues who are active on this network as members of the Full Board of the CMEA. Our shift in leadership is in its distribution. Four Members-at-Large now hold portfolios and titles that are purposeful, relevant, and critical to member growth and engagement. …
