The United States, the United Kingdom and Singapore rank first, second and third as the most frequent locations for employees sent on international assignments, according to a report by Cendant Mobility, the Danbury, Connecticut-based relocation firm. The report is based on the company's data, tracking the global transfer activity of its 1,700 clients.

Commenting on the growth of the United States as a destination, John Arcario, senior vice president and general manager of Cendant International Assignment Services, says, "Our data looks at relocation activity from a global rather than a U.S.-outbound perspective. In addition to the increase in the United States, other locations are seeing double-digit growth which is a clear reflection of a growing trend on the part of multinationals to increase the number of foreign nationals holding leadership positions in global locations."

U.S.-based multinationals are driving this trend, increasingly bringing employees to the U.S. on shorter term assignments-typically six to 24 months-for training, technology transfer and development. …
