EXPECTING RESULTS

The 700,000 babies bom in England each year cost the NHS around £2.5 billion. A National Audit Office study is looking at whether the Department of Health is achieving value for money from its spending on maternity services, and if the NHS has the capacity and capability to deliver against the national strategy for maternity care. The NAO will also report on the extent to which the expected results are being achieved.

LOAN SHARPENING

The National Audit Office is examining the process for student loan repayments. This is overseen by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Student Loans Company, with payments collected via HM Revenue & Customs' Pay As You Earn system. Auditors will consider how successful this system has been at collecting repayments on loans made since 1990/91.
