For Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as with many others, the need to give back and do good became urgent once she had children.

"You start thinking a little bit more globally I guess," says the "Veep" star. "I was struck by beach closures. The idea of a beach closure was unconscionable. So I became keenly interested in why it was happening, how it could be prevented." An invitation to host a Heal the Bay Bring Back the Beach dinner led to an association with the org that's lasted nearly 20 years.

Her favorite part of her time working with Heal the Bay, she says, is simply "Triumph." She's proud of the org's success in getting single-use plastic bags banned in Los Angeles and is hoping a statewide ban will follow. …
