Did you know that in the United States, injuries are the fifth leading cause of death, and are the leading cause of death for persons between the ages of 1 and 44. One person dies from an injury every three minutes. And millions are treated for injuries each year.

According to a study of injury-related death rates from The Facts Hurt: A State-By-State Injury Prevention Policy Report, conducted by the Trust for America's Health, approximately 50 million individuals are medically treated for injuries annually, and more than 2.8 million are hospitalized.

A separate report, documented at http:// healthyamericans.org/ reports/injuryU/, shows certain states have a higher risk of injury than others. The report lists the top five safest states as New York, Massachusetts, California, Connecticut and Illinois. The states where living is more hazardous are Montana, Alaska, Wyoming, West Virginia and Louisiana.
