Research Initiative to Highlight Value of Older Workers

The Society for Human Resource Management and the SHRM Foundation have launched a national, three-year initiative to highlight the value of older workers and, using original research, best practices for employing this demographic.

"In this knowledge economy the retention of older workers gives employers a competitive edge by allowing them to continue to tap a generation of knowledge and skill," said Mark Schmit, executive director of the SHRM Foundation, in a news release.

The project, funded by an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant, will include first-of-its-kind research and education aimed at understanding and solving the issues of an aging workforce. The project begins with an overview of existing research that identifies the employment issues associated with an aging workforce and analysis of HR policies and practices about older workers and implications for workplaces; reports; case studies; DVDs; and discussion guides. …
