Community pharmacists anticipate a future that includes a focus on cognitive services, a recent survey found.

Diagnostek Inc., a prescription benefit manager based in Albuquerque, N.M., mailed questionnaires to 5,000 community pharmacists in June, explained Julie Newman, v.p., marketing. The survey asked questions about pharmacists' expectations, needs, and preferences regarding the future of cognitive services as a part of third-party plans. A total of 1,506 pharmacists filled out the questionnaire and returned it.

The results revealed that nearly all community pharmacists who responded expect cognitive services (with pay) to be part of third-party plans in the future. In addition, a large minority of respondents said that they will not participate in any third-party plans that do not include cognitive services.

Here are some highlights from the results:

*When asked whether they felt cognitive services would be an integral part of network development in the next year or so, 96% of the respondents said Yes.
