The Survey Says. Operational Cost Savings Drive Participation in Regional Justice Facilities

According to a recent survey of county justice officials in Birmingham, Alabama, 71% of respondents whose county participates in a regional justice facilities say operational cost savings is the reason their county decided to participate in the facility. More than half (57%) indicate the shared cost of building a new facility was the reason their county participated in a regional facility. In addition, 29% cite increased flexibility in housing as their county's reason for participation. These are just some of the findings from KPS Group's 1997 Survey on Regional Justice Facilities. Of all the survey participants, 21% report that their county participates in a regional justice facility.

Of the 79% of respondents whose county does not participate in a regional justice facility, only 8% say their county is considering participating in a regional facility.
