* The American Library Association (ALA) hired Adam Eisgrau, a surveillance and intellectual property expert, to increase its lobbying initiatives to improve the visibility of bbrary issues on the national level. Eisgrau, who helped raise support for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), has been lobbying since 1995. According to the release, Eisgrau will "increase the association's presence in Washington and educate lawmakers on the issues libraries Adam Eisgrau face jn meeting the information demands of the public." He will also help ALA establish policies such as supporting the Fair Use doctrine and protecting readers' privacy.

Mark Holst-Knudsen is the new president of ThomasNet, which is part of Thomas Industrial Network. Holst-Knudsen represents the fourth generation in the family-owned company to hold a leadership position. In this role, Holst-Knudsen will drive the overall strategic direction and profitability of the company. Prior to joining ThomasNet in 2001 as director of project management, he held management positions at Fatwire Corp. and Thor Technologies, Inc. "I am honored to steward the mission that ThomasNet has had since 1898- connecting buyers and sellers ofindustrial/commercial products and services," he says.

* In an effort to plan for the needs of all library segments, EBSCO Information Services hired industry leaders Neil Block, Gar Sydnor, and Tamir Borensztajn. Block, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is the new VP of discovery innovation for academic libraries, while Sydnor, formerly the SVP of The Library Corp., is the VP of discovery innovation for public libraries and K-12 schools. Borensztajn, who served as the executive director of the Public Sector Innovation EMEAat Infor (Library Division), is the new VP of discovery strategy. "Adding Neil, Gar, and 'Ihmir allows us to have more bbrary technology veterans interacting with customers and potential customers of our technology products," says EBSCO president Tim Collins. …
