On May 13, 2013, Beijing Normal Uni- versity invited important figures within Chinese literary community-including Tie Ning, Chair of the Chinese Writers Association, Mo Yan, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature, and well-known contemporary novel- ists like Jia Pingwa and Su Tong-to the opening ceremony of BNU's new International Writing Center and a forum on "Chinese Literature Looking toward the World." BNU faculty, staff, and students joined the guests for a ceremony celebrating Mo Yan's appoint- ment as the center's first director and chair of the board. In his acceptance speech, Mo Yan declared that the International Writing Center will serve as a hub for literary writing and creation, a research institute for literature studies, and a platform for literary exchange. Outstanding writers, poets, translators, sinologists, and scholars from all over the world will be invited to write, research, and teach at the center. …
