National Audit Office inspectors will evaluate how well out-ofhours GP services across England are performingand how effectively clinical commissioning groups are managing the contracts. GPs have been able to opt of organising out-of-hours services since 2004 and the responsibility now falls to CCGs. As well as service provision, the study will consider how the Department of Health and NHS England i£in assurance for value for money and how effectively out-of-hours GP services are integrated with other urgent care and emergency services.

JUST THE TICKET?

The NAO will also examine the Department for Transport's use of the Private Finance Initiative to pay for trains for the Thameslink and Intercity Express Programmes. PFI contracts worth a total of £1 lbn are to be used for the design, build, financing and maintenance of the trains. Auditors will specifically look at whether the DfT is well placed to deliver value for money and comparisons will also be drawn with the Ministry of Defence's procurement of the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft, a similarly large PFI. …
