This was followed by a report by Lee Goode as to membership: a total of 634 members, a slight increase from 2012.

Ian Tiele presented an overview of the financial condition of the association. We are projected to lose about $4,000 this year, a slightly better performance than last year. Ian emphasized the fact that the conventions pay for themselves and are not a drain on the resources of the association. All raffle prizes and goody bag items are donated. Donations are accepted now. While no dues increase was suggested, for 2014, Geoff added that our membership fees are lower than other comparable associations.

Sally Fee addressed membership recruitment. We must attract new members to stay alive. Membership recruitment forms have been printed and convention goers are requested to take some home for distribution and solicitation of new members. Sally discussed the various efforts that she has engaged in to publicize the IAJRC and attract new members. These included displays at record conventions, libraries, jazz festivals, etc. and the writing of articles in the Journal promoting the association. Ian Tiele also added remarks about his activities, both locally while running the Brookfield Jazz Society and as convention chairman.

A new Membership Directory will be printed this year. Perry Huntoon & Lee Goode will prepare it and see that it is distributed. …
