This book is a series of reviews that Chris Searle wrote over the course of the past dozen years. There are two sections to this publication with reviews of CDs taking up the first section. The second section is reviews of live performances. The first section takes up the majority of the book with 108 reviews while the latter part consists of 22 essays. Also the first section dates only from the past 3 to 4 years while the other goes as far back as 2000.

Chris Searle writes a weekly column for the "Morning Star." Here he has gathered together a group of his columns. I recall another author, Whitney Balliett who did much the same thing from writings published originally in "The New Yorker." One of the drawbacks of a book of this sort is that there will obviously be some musicians that you may not be interested in while others are right in your area. …
