Sammy Price (1908-1992), a first rate boogie woogie and blues specialist, was a house pianist for Decca Records from 1936 through the forties. As such, he was the accompanist of choice for most of the blues performers who recorded for Decca but, at the same time, he led or participated in many sessions of a more purely jazz nature. At one time or another, he appeared on recordings alongside some of the finest jazz musicians of his generation. This double CD is comprised of four sessions recorded during the '50s when Price was leading groups of his own.

The first nine tracks from the March 20, 1955 session comprised a 12" Jazztone LP called Barrelhouse, Boogie and Blues. The two remaining tracks from this session were issued on other Jazztone records. …
