Nate Birkey is an unusual jazz musician. "Nate, he of the mysterious charisma, subtle gossamer trumpet lines and understated voice." I wish I would have written that but that is a direct quote from Josef Woodard writing in the Los Angeles Times. Birkey is a native of Colorado but received his musical education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, South Pacific University and the University of California, Santa Barbara, CA. He remained in that area for some time, moving to New York City in 2005. Major influences on this gifted artist include Chet Baker and Miles Davis.

Sal Giorgianni is a quality reed player who has a long pedigree as a sideman working with people like Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Billy Hart and many others. His contributions on this disc are right in the pocket. Jim Ridl does a yeoman's job at the piano and he has had nice stints with Maynard Ferguson and Dave Liebman to name a couple. The Dave Liebman rhythm section is here in mass with Vic Juris Tony Marino and Marko Marcinko. Steve Rudolph, a Hoosier native now domiciled in Central Pennsylvania has a long time association with Nate Birkey. …
