Trevor Tolley's name will be familiar to most readers of the this magazine. He is an IAJRC stalwart who can always be found at our annual convention and at the Canadian Collectors Congress making informative presentations on a diverse range of topics. Tolley has previously written books on a variety of subjects, including several on poetry. After buying his first jazz record in 1942, he started writing about the music two years later in 1944, and almost 70 years after that he was still in action executing a superb presentation at the 2013 IAJRC Convention in Kansas City.

Trevor's latest tome is "Codas to a life with jazz;" a cleverly titled piece of work which refers to essays that were written for the Canadian jazz magazine CODA and others based on some of his IAJRC and CCC presentations over the years.

As each chapter is a self-contained story, you can either read the whole book from cover to cover (as I did), or you can cherry-pick a specific topic from the twenty seven varied offerings available; such as "The Golden Weeks of Adrian Rollini," "In the Land of O-Bla-Dee: The Dean Benedetti Recordings of Charlie Parker," Dodo Marmarosa: Be-bop Revisited," The Early World of Cecil Taylor" and the wonderfully titled "Jazz Collecting in Ancient Britain - 1942. …
