My 5-year-old son Sascha and I had the following conversation after he gave me a piece of art he'd made:

Me: "Thank you, Sascha! It makes me feel so special that you made this art for me."

Sascha: "You're special all the time, not just when I make you art."

Me: "That's so nice. I love you."

Sascha: "I love you, too!"

Me: "Wow. There really isn't a better feeling than loving and being loved, is there?"

Sascha: "Yes, there is. There's TV."

One of my 214-year-old's favorite books is Biscuit Goes to the Farm, about a little puppy named Biscuit. Tonight, while we were reading, Isaac said: "Biscuit is a dog. When he is food we can eat it." I think he was actually working out the distinction between a word that means two different things: a name for a dog and a tasty buttery pastry. Brilliant.
