A twentysomething friend of mine sends this report from an upscale barbershop in Brooklyn: "Unpronounceable lotions, ointments, and creams were on sale alongside overpriced tshirts, messenger bags, and vintage sunglasses. A gay couple flirted next to me on the waiting room bench. Obscure magazines that would probably reject my request for a subscription (quarterly, of course) were available for reading. The barber had two full sleeves of tattoos. I asked him about his family. He has a son. He's married. We chat about fatherhood. He asks what I do for a living. Light banter. I'm getting drowsy.
