Britain's Guardian Diary called it 'the most idiotic protest of the year'. The New York Times noted it was the 'smallest global rally on record'. This was the first global 'walk for capitalism' last 2 December, the work of an Australian man naming himself the Prodos Institute.

Responding to calls posted on the internet, 15 people turned up to trudge round central London to show their support for capitalism carrying balloons that said 'I love money'.

New York fared much better, mustering 50 protesters. The New York Times reported: 'As the marchers headed up the sidewalk on Fifth Avenue with a police escort, [a] man tried leading a cheer - "Give me a C!" - but the crowd barely had enough energy to spell "CAPITALISM". The rest of the march was pretty quiet. "We don't have any chants," one protester said. "We're really not protest people.'"

Reports suggested that there were marches that had been infiltrated by anti-capitalists. …
