Students' Best Papers Now Come with Cash Rewards

Article excerpt

The SEMS Best Student Paper Competition, hosted by the SEMS Student Initiatives Committee, is pleased to announce a partnership with UPS to make this competition even more appealing by offering cash awards.

The competition is our recognition and reward for students who have recently designed, adapted or applied engineering and management tools and techniques for solving "real-world" problems. Problem areas may be related, but not limited, to quality management, lean, operations management, decision-making, strategy management, product design, innovation management, supply chain and project management.

We know that students' academic/research work is the outcome of a time-consuming and often frustrating process that implies sacrificing nights of goofing offfor nights of studying in the library or working in the lab. Thus, we want to recognize the dedication, devotion, discipline and determination students put into their work.

In particular, we want to spotlight outstanding students' recently completed or ongoing work in a dedicated session at the Engineering and Management Track at the Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC). In this session, winning students will have the opportunity to give a short presentation of their work. To this aim, we expect student winners to attend the conference, which is scheduled May 30 - June 2 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.

A synopsis of the winning paper will be featured in SEMS Says, and a version of it will be posted on the SEMS website. …
