I found this program to be unusual in several ways. First, it is cerebral music rather than in your face swing. Secondly, it is very economical in that neither musician seems to play more notes than necessary to say what they need to say. Thirdly (is that a word) the melody is only hinted at from time to time. The exception to this is the very familiar Billy Strayhom tune, "Lotus Blossom". They seem to engage in the chord structure. Now having said that, it is a very interesting experience but it takes repeated listening to have this revealed to this reviewer. Maybe you get it the first time, but not here. When this CD arrived it almost did not get into the review stack. …
