Catherine Russell, born in 1956 in New York City, is a strong singer in the mainstream jazz arena. It is no wonder for she is the daughter of the late Luis Russell who we know as the big band leader of the 1920s into the 1940s. He also had a long association with Louis Armstrong. Her mother was the late Carline Ray who was guitarist and singer with the famous International Sweethearts of Rhythm and also worked with Mary Lou Williams. Her mother had degrees from Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. …
