This installment of "The Boys In the Band" is a variation on the column's objectives: to give personnel of both recorded and unrecorded bands, band itineraries, and background information on musicians. In this case, a photo will be presented and the reader is asked to contribute the names of the personnel. The Moro Castle Orchestra photo is the second of three owned by David Hyde, local aficionado of 1920s music. He has had them in his possession for several years.

David Hyde's photo looks to be from the mid-1920s. A review of the band from two papers at the time gives some information. The leader is Lillian Hertz who is standing in the middle of the photo holding a baton.

The Ward Cruise Lines, named The New York and Cuba Mail Steamship Company, made regular runs between New York and Cuba. In 1930, they built the Morro Castle Steamship to better the competition from British shipping. …
