This recording from April of 2012 presents what I assume to be a working quartet. While the playing on the disc is good, I suspect that hearing them in person would provide a more compelling musical experience. The quartet produces a very open sound with the guitar creating counter melodies as often as comping - the first six tunes or so are more straight-ahead examples of a club date jazz band, but the last several tend more towards the experimental, with Charlie Parker's "Cheryl" (of all things) being one of the more outside presentations. …
