Turmoil at Show Added to Reason for Rosie's Exit

When Rosie O'Donnell made her return to "The View" in September, she promised a calmer version of the host who fled in 2007 after a single season. But she announced Feb. 6 that she was exiting after five months, due to pressures from the end of her second marriage. Insiders, however, say that's not the only reason she's leaving. O'Donnell didn't feel like her strengths were being properly used by ABC, according to those close to her. Compounding the problem were tensions with co-host Whoopi Goldberg and behindthe-scenes executive turmoil at "The View," which recently shifted to being managed by ABC News.

This year, "The View" has plummeted 9% in its target demo of women 25-54, sometimes even losing the demo race to CBS' upstart rival, "The Talk."
