Mr. Dahl is quite a story. He started as a drummer age 9 and at one point studied under Ed Thigpen. But at age 21 he became a pianist and not only in jazz but also classical music He has written some classical works including a concerto for piano. Glenn Gould was his inspiration. He states that his jazz influences are Bill Evans, Bud Powell, Keith Jarrett and Cecil Taylor. Presently he teaches at The Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He and his two sidemen all entered the recording studios in the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Carsten Dahl is 47 years old now. He has appeared in over 100 recording sessions. Some of the artists were Johnny Griffin, Ted Curson and Joe Lovano to name a few. …
