The quartet setting has been a staple in jazz for many years. This foursome is in the tradition with leanings more toward bop. The guys really hear and respect each other and the result is a very pleasant experience. Why not, all of them are veteran jazz musicians who have worked together many times. Much of the program is originals from Mark Elf. The initial tune is a take off on Duke Jordan's "Jordu". "Jacky's Jaunt" and "Michellie's Mambo" are tributes to his two sisters who are no longer alive. "Low Blow" and "The Bottom Line" were written to showcase his baritone guitar with the latter tune a corruption of "I Got Rhythm". …
