Taylor Hackford and Helen Mirren are one of the most durable Hollywood couples; they met when he directed her in the 1985 drama "White Nights," and tied the knot in 1997. Here, the director (an Oscar winner himself for the 1978 short film "Teenage Father") offers some unique insight into his Oscar-winning wife.

1. SHE DOESN'T LIKE TO SEE HERSELF ONSCREEN.

She never looks at dailies and rarely watches her own films. "When she has to, she's usually sitting next to me, pressing my hand in excruciating pain," he says.

2. JOAN RIVERS MADE HER CRY.

When Mirren was nominated for her first Oscar for "The Madness of King George," she assembled her own outfit, wearing a small hat and veil to the ceremony. "I thought she looked great," Hackford says.
