WHEN CHRIS O'DONNELL isn't busy with filming an episode of the CBS procedural "NCIS: Los Angeles" or vacationing with his family, the actor, who credits his father with instilling in him a strong charitable bent, can often be found taking part in one of his myriad philanthropic endeavors.

"Growing up, my dad was on the board of the Safer Foundation in Chicago," says O'Donnell. "I remember saying, 'Dad, what is it?' and he told me, 'We're trying to rehabilitate ex-cons. When people come out, we help give them a second chance.' And as a little kid, I'm thinking, 'Why would you want to do that?' And he said it's because they deserve a second chance. I remember that really sticking with me as a kid."

The desire to help people has also stuck with O'Donnell throughout his adulthood. Whether it's partnering with Liberty Mutual Insurance and its Play Positive initiative to help promote sportsmanship in youth sports or getting into the swing of things with the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, which stages its annual AT&T Pebble Beach National ProAm golf tournament to raise money for numerous charities, O'Donnell makes a point of giving back to those less fortunate whenever and wherever he can. …
