As a user of previous Pumpkin DVDs, I was interested to see how the new crop of 'Pumpkin Interactive' films would compare. Production values are high, and the films have been well received by students. Each film of 35-40 minutes is described as being suitable for KS3-5, which requires supporting materials and interpretation to be successfully achieved. I would say that they are perhaps more suitable for exam groups when taken as a whole, as some sections move very quickly and introduce lots of new ideas. The addition of ice and climate change into the 2014 national curriculum for key stage 3 may provoke additional interest in these DVDs for those who are unfamiliar with these topics.

The Alps Filmed in Chamonix, and split into seven sections, this is my favourite of the three films. There are exciting sequences of winter sports, and interesting interviews which bring the town and its challenges to life. A familiar tale of tourist and environmental management is told well, with the 'wow factor' of the Sky Walk. There is a nice pace and structure to the story being told, and I shall be using this film with Year 7 students.
