There is no one more qualified to record a tribute CD to Cedar Walton than David Hazeltine. Walton, who passed away in August 2013 was one of Hazeltine's prime pianistic influences as well as a personal friend in later years. Besides being a wonderfully swinging and tasteful pianist, Walton was a first class composer with many memorable tunes to his credit. All the tunes here are Walton's with the exception of the closing solo piano track "Over the Rainbow."

Hazeltine digs into the nine Walton tunes with relish and obvious affection. Each track in this nicely varied program is a delight. Among my favorites are "Clockwise" and "Turquoise Twice" along with "Cedar's Blues" and "Fiesta Espanol. …
