Anat Cohen is a gift to jazz. With each release she has just continued to expand both her repertoire and talent. This latest disc, her seventh as a leader, is a mixture of all her musical experiences from Brazilian music through her many encounters with jazz. The tunes she wrote, four in all, have the integration of these many musical threads. Two tunes on the album are written by the Brazilian icon, Milton Nascimento. He has been an influence on Anat since her days when a student at Berklee College of Music. Those songs are "Lilia" and "Cais". Both are very melodic. "Ternura" and "Espinha de Bacalhau" are performed by her Latin band, Choro Aventuroso. Her own compositions include "Ima", "The Wein Machine", "In The Spirit Of Baden" and "Happy Song". …
