Opening Ceremony for the Chinese Poetry Research Institute of Beijing University

Beijing University held the opening ceremony for its new Chinese Poetry Research Institute buildings on April 26, 2015. Ceremony attendees included the current university president, Lin Jianhua, former president Wang Enge, and hundreds of poets and critics, including Sun Yushi, Ren Hongyuan, Tang Xiaodu, Ouyang Jianghe, Zhang Qinghua, Wang Guangming, Yang Ke, Chen Sheyun, Li Li, the founder of the Zhongkun poetry development foundation, Huang Nubo (whose pen name is Luo Ying), Haidian District CPPCC chairperson Xing Yepeng, and Beijing University Education Foundation secretary general, Deng Ya. They and many other poets, teachers, and students gathered at the new Poetry Center on the shore of the campus's beautiful Weiming Lake. Professor Jiang Langlang and the Center's executive director, Chen Xiaoming, presided over the ceremony, which included poetry readings, performances of classical music and opera, and speeches that proclaimed the importance of poetry as a key element of contemporary Chinese culture. The opening ceremony also included letters of congratulations from the United Nations UNESCO assistant director general for culture; the French minister, Jacques Pellet; the Ambassador to Iceland; Malta ambassador Clifford Borg-Marks, and other ambassadors and ministers, plus representatives from many international embassies were in attendance. …
