From a surprise appearance to stifling temperatures, a look at the good, bad and ugly of this year's kudos

THE GOOD

Even in a night of memorable speeches from the likes of Viola Davis, Jon Hamm, Jeffrey Tambor and Uzo Aduba, the evening's most moving surprise was the industry homecoming for former nominee Tracy Morgan. Looking healthy and sounding in good spirits 15 months after a car crash left him in critical condition, Morgan may have been a bit tentative in his delivery, but still nailed the comic timing of his final punchline: "Only recently I've started to feel like myself again, which means a whole lotta women gonna get pregnant at the after party."

THE BAD

The need to honor the insane number of first-rate series finales from the past season is understandable, but did the clips for the celebratory montage need to be so spoilery? Unless home viewers took a cue from Andy Samberg's opening sketch and retreated to their binge-watch bunkers to catch up on TV they've missed, many were seeing major twists from final episodes of "Boardwalk Empire," "Justified," "Nurse Jackie," "Parenthood," "Sons of Anarchy" and "True Blood" for the first time. …
