Oprah Buys Into Weight Watchers

Oprah Winfrey has purchased a 10% stake in diet-plan company Weight Watchers Inti, in a bid to transform it into an organization that promotes overall health and wellness. The New York company said Winfrey would make a "substantial equity investment" in Weight Watchers, and join its board of directors, in the process "bringing her insight to future products and programs." She also will receive options to acquire an additional 5% of the fully diluted shares, per company. As part of the pact, Winfrey, whose efforts to maintain a healthy weight have long been scrutinized, will become a member of the Weight Watchers program.

AFI Fest Adds Michael Moore Doc to Galas

The AFI Fest has set centerpiece gala screenings of Michael Moore's "Where to Invade Next" as well as Patricia Riggen's "The 33." "Where to Invade Next," which premiered at the Toronto Film Fest, will screen Nov. 7 at the Egyptian Theater. "The 33," starring Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro and Juliette Binoche, will unspool Nov. 9 at the TCL Chinese Theatre. "Where to Invade" is being released by a new distribution company run by Tom Quinn, Jason Janego and Tim League. …
