* Combined together, our Living Lab and Center for Environmental Studies are catalysts for O'Dowd stepping forward as leaders in the Education for Sustainability (EfS) movement. Both serve as an entry point for transitioning to incorporating sustainability into all facets of O'Dowd life: Campus and Operations, Curriculum and Education, Community Engagement, and overall Culture.

* The Center was financially supported under the direction of our advancement and president's offices. We hired a director of sustainability. We invested in this project fully. We had a great deal of parental and alumni support, a capital campaign and strategic budgeting. However, the real success came through integration across campus life. It was taking sustainability from our building and putting it into our culture. It is how we operate on a day to day.

* Our strategy in becoming better stewards of the environment was to approach it from every level. Greening our campus is the visible aspect. Trash, compost and recyclables and solar panels were our basic level commitment to the environment. …
