Media execs indicate that protecting assets is more challenging than it has ever been

Nearly one year after the Sony hack, media executives say the number of cyber attacks on their companies has only increased, according to conclusions exclusively provided to Variety by PwC from its forthcoming annual Global State of Information Security Survey. Judging by what 319 execs surveyed worldwide in May and June had to say, the industry is far more focused on cybersecurity, but still beleaguered by invasions coming from both inside and outside their companies.

Mark Lobel, principal of PwC's U.S. Advisory practice and leader of its cybersecurity division, attributes the renewed vigilance of the media industry to the Sony hack. "It's been a game changer," he said. "It has dramatically raised the importance and visibility of cybersecurity in the media. …
