OREGON: AGENCY SAYS UBER DRIVERS ARE EMPLOYEES

The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, in an advisory opinion, stated that Uber drivers are employees rather than independent contractors because they work for the benefit of the company and are economically dependent on the business. The opinion is not binding but was intended to be instructive, according to agency commissioner Brad Avakian. Litigation concerning the status of Uber drivers as employees or independent contractors is pending in California and Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH: PAID SICK DAYS ACT EFFECTIVE IN 2016

The Pittsburgh Paid Sick Days Act requires all employers of employees within the Pittsburgh city limits to provide paid sick leave to all full- and part-time workers.
