John Murdy is the creative director of Universal Studios Hollywood, but his relationship with the studio and theme park started in 1972 when his family moved to Southern California. In 1989 he became a studio tour guide, and has watched how the park has evolved over the years. He shares some of the iconic tour's key dates and developments over the years. - Seth Kelley

1915

Carl Laemmle opens Universal City: "When (he) opened the studio March 15,1915, (he) invited public to come to the studio to see the magic of moviemaking."

1950

Early tours: "The old Grey Line Tours, which would do tours of the movie stars' homes and things like that, had an arrangement back then where they would drive their buses onto studio property, and (the studio) would let them drive around the backlot, and hand the bus drivers a printed script of what to talk about."

1964

"Psycho" House: "Every night I walk past the 'Psycho' House. And every night I stop and stare at it. Because that fascination has never left me. …
