Many people remark that DanceMakers Inc. feels like a new convention-even though it's turning 36 this year. And they're right: "In the last 10 years, we've brought in a lot of fresh energy," says co-owner and creative director Bradley Taylor.

Part of the company's energy comes from DanceMakers' faculty, which includes celebrities like Kathryn McCormick, Robert Roldan and Matt Tseng, to name just a few. This year, Taylor is committed to giving students across the country the same inspiring experience. "I want to offer a consistent faculty," he says. No matter which of the 19 convention tour stops a dancer might attend, "you'll learn from every single person on our roster."

Increasing student involvement is also a priority. As part of this year's Love Conquers All tour, DanceMakers has set up an online forum and is inviting dancers to write about a time when love played a major part in their lives. McCormick will then use the submissions as inspiration for her choreography.

DanceMakers utilizes the most current technology available: Not only can teachers register online, students' competition critiques are also available for download. Studios get password-protected logins, and they can even upload music directly to DanceMakers' site.

DanceMakers Collective program is getting an update: In addition to the 12 senior dancers who fly to L.A., meet with talent agents and assist DanceMakers faculty, DanceMakers is starting a JV Collective program for two junior and two teen dancers. …
