For Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard, choosing his top five favorite films was a delicate task, considering his acclaimed body of work. His resume includes such award-winning and well-loved pictures as the Oscar-winning "A Beautiful Mind," "Apollo 13," "Frost/Nixon," "Parenthood" and "Cocoon." But Howard proved up to the challenge, as the following list of his personal favorite film experiences proves.

COCOON (1985)

"'Cocoon' was a very important one for me. Thematically, it had a lot of dimensions, and it was really the first time that I blended real drama with comedy. And I learned so much from a filmmaking standpoint, because it was my first foray into special effects. That's always been an important one."

FAR AND AWAY (1992)
