If you were lucky, you caught The Hot Jazz Alliance at one of the stops on their July 2015 tour of England and the eastern United States culminating in appearances at the annual Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival in Davenport. A cooperative group made up of two Americans, Andy Schumm and Josh Duffee, and four Australians, nominally led by Michael McQuaid, this band focuses on 1920s era jazz paying homage to the greats of that period: Bix, the Austin High Gang, Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven, and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings among others. But they are not copycats just playing the original arrangements of those artists. This music is fresh and vibrant and brings that earlier era back to life. …
