Elvin Jones, the youngest of the famous Jones family, is probably the least known compared to his brothers Hank and Thad. Yet, he was within the music fraternity a musician admired for pushing percussion along into the modern, post-bop era. Much of this happened in the six years (1960-1966) he was a member of the John Coltrane organization. That fact is quite evident here. All this music except "Beatrice" is in that idiom. That song is about as close to being a ballad as this group manages. It might be added here that the entire program with the exception of "Giraffe" is the result of compositions by three members of this band. …
