Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Joe Alterman grew up listening to the blues and also blue grass music. He came to New York City in 2007 to study at New York University where he not only obtained a bachelor's degree but a master's as well. This 26 year old musician has done quite well for himself. His mentors consist of Houston Person, Ramsey Lewis, Les McCann and Ahmad Jamal. Gregory graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 1997.
