This clear and descriptive guide is excellent for those who want a quick way to learn or refresh their memories on particular features of some of the major search engines. I read the first edition, and got a preview of the second edition, due out in early 1999.

The guide is a handy 8.5" x 11" size with a spiral binding, making it convenient to have sitting next to the computer terminal (although tabs would help the user quickly find the details on a particular search engine). It starts with a description of searching in general, and a brief tutorial on Boolean logic. The few pages of "General Considerations" provide insight into the general features offered by the search engines, such as specific field searching, More Like This, case sensitivity, etc. …
