Pope Francis has challenged us to look at catechesis differently saying "the process of catechesis should steer away from using simply the scholastic sphere in order to teach people to encounter and follow Christ." How do we connect this idea of catechesis with the use of the ACRE assessment for Religious Education?

The goal of catechesis is to create committed disciples of Jesus Christ who understand and practice the Catholic faith. Therefore, we need to begin by understanding the language of the Church. Think about the languages you have learned in the last ten to fifteen years. There is a language of technology, an educational language - even a Starbucks language! Without understanding what the language is and how to properly use it, you cannot be fully engaged in the culture. The language of the Church is the same. Yes, we can live the life of a disciple, but to fully immerse ourselves in the culture we must understand the words and concepts that connect us to the community.
