Forbes Magazine's "30 Under 30" annual lineup of young journalists features more women than ever: 19. The list encompasses journalists from traditional organizations, start-ups, a newsletter, Twitter and more. What is striking is how many of these journalists are founders or executives in new media. It's an impressive class of journalist-entrepreneurs: http:// www.forbes.com/30-under-30-2016/media/

Liza Donnelly, a 2014 finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor, took to the Washington Post to complain about women cartoonists being shut out of the prestigious International Comics Festival award in Angoulême, France, in January. The list of 30 nominations for the esteemed Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême - the annual festival's lifetime achievement award - did not include even one woman. In the 43-year history of the festival, only one woman, Florence Cestac, has ever won the award, Donnelly said. "In 2010,1 wrote a history of women cartoonists at the New Yorker, and in the process learned about many women cartoonists and comic artists over the course of the past century. And it seems to me there are a number of women whose body of work should be recognized by the festival. To name Florence Cestac just a few: Claire Bretécher, who was among the French cartoonists I grew up reading, influenced many young cartoonists of my generation and beyond; my American colleagues Roz Chast and Alison Bechdel; and Israeli artist Rutu Modan. There are others," Donnelly wrote. The festival's organizers essentially said there just aren't enough good women to pick from. Donnelly brilliantly shows how wrong they are: https:// www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/ wp/2016/01/07/frances-greatest-comics-festival-justsnubbed-women-heres-what-the-event-doesnt-get/ In The Guardian, Laurenn McCubbin offers a broader perspective; her article on the history of women drawing comics, is here: http://www.theguardian.com/ books/2016/jan/10/women-comics-not-so-secrethistory?CMP=share_btn_link
