Association Football is not the only reason for citizens of Leicester to be proud of their City this year, as details of a new international series of String Quartets in the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery this year have recently been released by Graham Oppenheimer, the leading light of the series, who believes that we are currently witnessing a golden age for the string quartet and nowhere more so than in Leicester where there is a long tradition of string quartet concerts. Both universities have traditionally supported string quartets with the University of Leicester presenting the iconic Lindsay Quartet for many years.

The venue is the beautifully proportioned Victorian Gallery at the Leicester New Walk Museum & Art Gallery(pictured above), a perfect space for chamber music. Each concert will highlight a painting in the collection dating from the time of one of the works played.

The ICS Academy will provide an opportunity for the young quartets of tomorrow to receive coaching from these outstanding visiting artists in public masterclasses at Leicester's Belmont Hotel. …
