Oregon: Historic Minimum-Wage Increase Enacted

The first geographically tiered minimum-wage hike in the country will go into effect in Oregon on July 1. Employers will pay different minimum-wage rates depending on the part of the state where they are located. The pay will steadily increase through 2023, eventually giving Oregon one of the highest minimum wages in the nation, with employers in the Portland area paying the most, at $14.75 an hour.

Wisconsin: Pay for Pre- And Post-ShiftWork Required

The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld a trial court award of more than $180,000 in wages to production line employees at Hormel Foods in a lawsuit brought under state wage and hour laws. The workers were required to wear hard hats, hearing and eye protection, hairnets, and sanitary clothing, but the company did not compensate them for the time spent putting on and taking offthese items. …
